A doctor from the University of California Los Angeles has ordered an Internet search to find a drug that may be linked to the deaths of at least two men in China and in some other countries.
Dr. K. Alexander Balsbury, a doctor at La Jolla University, and a former assistant professor at UCLA, have ordered the drug, called sildenafil citrate, to be sold under the brand name Viagra. The drug is only available from licensed online pharmacies. It's unclear when the Internet search will begin, although many people have used it before. The drug is not a controlled substance. It's a chemical, which means it needs to be given to the patient and is not considered an illicit substance.
Balsbury and his colleagues say that they have bought the drug online through various pharmacies, and they have found it to be very effective in treating erectile dysfunction. They say that if a person has used the drug for a long time, and is suffering from the condition, they can expect to receive an order.
The doctor, who is a retired medical doctor and is also a member of the Department of Health and Human Services, said the drug is safe.
